The community awareness trainings, organized in collaboration with the Final International University Family and Women Research Studies Center, the Mehmetçik Büyükkonuk Municipality, and the Turkish Cypriot Entrepreneurial Women’s Association (GIKAD), concluded with the final event held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Kumyalı Village Square.
This week’s focus was on “Healthy Aging and Physical Activity.”
The event began with a speech by Prof. Dr. Hayriye Deniz Şelimen, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Final International University, who shared a comprehensive overview of the healthy aging process. She emphasized that healthy aging is shaped over a lifetime—beginning in youth—and highlighted the impact of factors such as nutrition, hydration, physical activity, mental engagement, and having a sense of purpose in life. She also addressed the role of prenatal nutrition, the risks of genetic diseases, and the importance of minimizing unnecessary chemical and pharmaceutical use in maintaining overall well-being.
Following her speech, Lecturer Ali Fahir Öksüzoğlu from Final International University emphasized the importance of physical activity for healthy aging. He introduced practical, at-home exercises and explained how regular movement can significantly improve both physical and mental health, especially for older adults.
With this final event in Kumyalı, the first phase of the training series has come to a close. However, these community awareness efforts will continue in new regions with fresh topics and expert speakers. The initiative aims to reach broader audiences and contribute to public empowerment through accessible, informative, and health-focused educational sessions.
